Prince Oppong Leadership

Prince is a third-year Chemical Engineering student at KNUST — but if you have been around the College of Engineering, you already know his name. His leadership story did not start at university. From serving as SRC Vice President at St. Paul Methodist JHS to holding five distinct leadership roles at Achimota School — Prince has always been the person students turn to.

That journey took him even further when he became Regional SRC President under the Ghana Education Service, Greater Accra Region, representing thousands of students across the region. At KNUST, he hit the ground running. As Organizing Secretary of the OAA KNUST Chapter and Academic Board Chairperson of the KNUST SRC, he has been deep in the work of student governance.

"My leadership philosophy is built on accountability to a community, not just a title. A leader’s impact shouldn’t wait for election day."

Last year, as a second-year student, Prince did something that turned heads — he entered the College of Engineering presidential race, becoming the only second-year candidate. He finished strongly, coming in second in the GESA elections. That moment said everything about who he is: someone who does not wait for permission to lead.

Beyond formal titles, Prince has quietly been one of the most active students in the college through "Learn with Prince" and a growing list of initiatives that have put resources, support, and real solutions in the hands of his fellow students. Now he is back — more experienced, more prepared, and more determined than ever.

My Conviction

Why I am Running.

Leadership has never been something I stumbled into — it’s something I’ve been building since JHS. Every role I’ve taken on, I’ve given it everything, because I’ve always believed that when you’re in a position to make an impact, you owe it to the people around you to do exactly that.

Senior high school sharpened that conviction. As Regional SRC President under the Ghana Education Service, I saw firsthand how meaningful student leadership could be — and what it could unlock for an entire community when done right.

Coming to KNUST and the College of Engineering felt like finally having the platform to match the vision. Two to three years of being a student here has shown me real, pressing problems — and I don’t just want to talk about them. I’ve challenged myself to be part of solving them.

"This isn’t just about a title. It’s about finishing what I started."
